Gas Natural Fenosa is one of the leading multinational companies in the gas and electricity sector, operating in 25 countries, with more than 20 million customers and 16.5 gigawatts of installed power.
Following the acquisition of the electricity company, Unión Fenosa, third in the Spanish market, Gas Natural Fenosa has achieved its objective of integrating the gas and electricity businesses in a single company with extensive experience in the energy sector, capable of competing efficiently in energy markets subject to a process of increasing integration, globalisation and levels of competition.
It is the the largest integrated gas and electricity company in Spain and Latin America, leading the natural gas sales market in the Iberian Peninsula and is the number one distributor of natural gas in Latin America. With a fleet of 10 methane carriers it is also one of the biggest operators in the liquefied natural gas (LNG) market in the world and is the benchmark company in the Atlantic and Mediterranean basins where it supplies 30 billion cubic metres.
The Gas Natural Fenosa Group established the first gasworks in Spain in Barcelona in 1843 and was the pioneer in the introduction of natural gas in the country, when it initiated the process in 1969. The Group began the process of internationalising itself in 1992.
In 1992, after the completions of the merger of Catalana de Gas, S.A., Gas Madrid, S.A. and of several local gas companies belonging to Repsol, the new group adopted the name of Gas Natural SDG, S.A. and decided to set up the Gas Natural Foundation.
Later, in September 2009, with the acquisition of Unión Fenosa, the Group adopted the name of Gas Natural Fenosa and the Foundation, in line with the evolution of the Group name, began to call itself the Gas Natural Fenosa Foundation, now being the prominent instrument for action in the third sector. |
