    About the Museum

The Gas Museum of the Gas Natural Fenosa Foundation aims to preserve and promote the heritage of the gas and electricity sector, as well as to explore the future of new energies and their interaction with the environment.

Located in a modernist building, La Energía, in the Plaça de Gas in Sabadell- where, oddly enough in the early twentieth century electricity was produced from gas- the Museum offers a journey through the history of the company since 1843 as the Sociedad Catalana para el Alumbrado por Gas up to the current Gas Natural Fenosa; a description of the evolution of the electricity and gas industry in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries through the social changes brought on by new inventions and new technologies, a reflection on the present and the future of energy, namely, on the importance of the efficient use of natural resources and on how to obtain energy continuously, economically and with a low environmental impact and, finally, a view of the building, which from the observation deck shows the sustainability measures taken in the restoration and new construction of the building.

The Gas Museum is also a documentation center that encourages research into the industrial heritage of the gas and electricity sectors, and participates in research and publications. The museum holds the Historical Archives of the Gas Natural Fenosa Foundation which occupies more than 3,000 metres of shelves and collects together historical documents of the companies of the Group.

The Gas Museum offers a wide range of activities and educational workshops aimed at school students. It combines permanent and temporary exhibitions with the organisation of courses and conferences. The building also houses the headquarters and offices of the Gas Natural Fenosa Foundation.
